This appears to be a Metroliner, built by the Budd Company for the Pennsylvania by request of the Department od Transportaion. Due to unreliability, they were retired by Amtrak after only 10 years of service, and some were rebuilt into cab cars, as seen here. This one must have been purchased by the DOT and converted into a surveycar of sorts. |
